video lenght

YouTube favours longer videos, but viewers favour short. Its a cinstant battle between watchtime and audience retention. Have a look at your own audience retention and see how long people usually watch for.

Unless you can really captivate them for 20+ minutes, then sticking to 5-10 is probably a good middle point
 
Some time ago I sent an e-mail to Clint, the man behind Lazy Game Reviews, I quote from what he replied me:
I'm not sure there's any one answer to this, because it really does depend on what you're covering. For me, I try to keep my game reviews anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes long, or about the time it takes for someone to eat a quick meal (because I like to do that when watching videos). That usually means a script of to 4 pages. Of course, some games are bigger or shorter so it varies. And when I'm covering hardware or something different, it's really just anything goes.

Use whatever length you want, If your videos are good enough I believe people will watch them for the whole duration

You see, I'd stick around even for a 30 minute video if the first few minutes shows that the video is packed with awesome interesting stuff. If you have a 3 minute video but the content is boring as hell, no one would even watch it. The thing is not long vs short, it's long/short good content vs long/short useless content. :)
