Video is Public While Under Dispute

Well it finally happened. I got my first copyright claim slapped on me. In all honesty I'm honored. I must be doing something right if my channel of 65 subscribes is that threatening to get a claim. So while Im waiting for a response to the dispute, i have a question.

I thought videos are set to private or removed when a claim happens but my video is public. Is that normal?

Stay Positive!

We have two videos that 'contain copyrighted material' and they're both live. They're covers though and I've clicked the revenue thingy so I assume it'll just stay public for you. What did you get claimed for?

Mine is interesting because I set my video to be published in an hour at 5:00 today Central Time. Mine is a Play-through of a PC Star Wars Rebel Assault 2 The Hidden Empire. I have my own custom intro, logo, music. Obviously the game play footage could be argued but I do have a transitions and side info logos that pop up. However the claim was for the music hahaha not even the footage. Here's what's funny, my video wasnt even public! I literately uploaded my video, set it to go live in a hour and got slapped with a claim in less then minutes. That isn't humanly possible. I recall YouTube saying on how they dont really handle the matter but there is no way Sony Music Entertainment could catch wind of this that fast which makes me believe YouTube has to have a list of words or whatever coding that when those are used its instant flag.

Not to burst your bubble, but it was likely YouTube's ContentID bot that found the offending content and reported it to whoever put in the claim. It's all automated and searches through every video on YouTube - no matter how big or small a channel is.

You just posted a comment while I was typing this which confirms my suspicion.

That depends on if it's a copyright claim or a strike. Since yours was a claim, there's no reason to take the video down - since Sony Music wants the video to remain up... they just want to be able to claim any income generated from it.

I figured it was a bot but still its interesting and funny. I never monetized it anyway so Sony isn't going to get anything from that video. Thanks for the info!

If they have a copyright claim on it, you don't have to monetize it... they can and will.

I did dispute it so we will see what happens. I didn't know they could monetize it. That's crazy. Oh well! thanks for all the info guys!
