Video Editing Troubles

So I've never really had a problem with Vegas before, but now I've got a new camera and it just doesn't seem to be playing nice with it.

It usually records in .mp4, which Vegas can't open so I tried to convert it to .mov but now when I put it in Vegas the whole program freezes and I have to close out of it.

I tried multiple formats (.mov, .mp4, .avi)with HitFilm 2 Express, but as soon as I load it in the whole program slows down so much to the point of being unusable, but I've never used HitFilm for anything else so I can't really say if this is a new issue.

This morning I even tried to download Windows Movie Maker as a last resort, since I can't seem to figure this problem, but it won't let me open it saying I don't meet the requirements?

And since the new Windows update I have uninstalled/reinstalled and all that jazz. So basically does anyone have an idea what the problem might be, or how o fix it? I need to edit my videos, and this is really holding me back.

I have never used that program to be honest, i have always used adobe premier for my editing. Maybe you should do some research into what formats it does like.

if Sony Vegas does not accept your MP4 files, you need the K-Light Codec pack. can't link on this forum the download, search on google K-Light Codec pack and download the standard one

Sony Vegas is opening mp4 files by itself cause when you install it install some codecs too but sometimes it might fail and you get them from internet and dont use movie maker its not really good like i used it before of course but its not worth tryng to make a good video with it , it dosent have all requierment

I would try and download the free month trial of Adobe Premiere CS6! You'll rarely ever have any video format issues, plus it's just
a great editing software. I use it for all my work.

I can't speak much to the Sony Vegas issue, but I Googled the problem you are having with Windows Movie Maker, and it looks like that issue can be caused by an outdated video driver. Are all your system drivers up-to-date?

Just find a lossless converter. Anything that will convert .mp4 to another format without degrading quality. I think video redo tv suite and avs might do this.

30 minutes of clips should only take a few seconds to convert on an old laptop as long as you don't make any edits.

I use premiere 6 and I have a problem with my camera, it doesn't recognize the audio, so I just convert it to .avi which premiere 6 doesn't recognize the video.... problem solved :([DOUBLEPOST=1390874071,1390874035][/DOUBLEPOST]Idk if that is really a converter or what. I just know it changes the container without losing quality.

I used that back in school! Great program, I miss it. I might try that next.

I actually don't know! :O I completely forgot about those. I'm going to check and update them and see if that's the issue.

which camera are you using? which version of Vegas?
Vegas 12 and I'm using the Logitech C920, it's a webcam.

I'm such a noob guys, thanks for the help.[DOUBLEPOST=1390930045,1390926738][/DOUBLEPOST]THAT WAS IT. I updated my drivers and now everything is working fine in Vegas. God, do I feel dumb.

Glad to hear your issues have been resolved! Especially for Sony Vegas, rather than Windows Movie Maker :p
