Video compressor for gaming videos?

Hey guys,

I have incredibly slow internet, 0.6mb/s. Which makes uploading 20 minute (2GB) videos a total pain! On average it takes 12-16 hours to upload a single video.

So I am looking for suggestions of video compressors/converters that significantly reduce the file size of my video without losing any or much quality.

Thanks so much!
Steph

What file format and bit rate are you exporting the videos in? Only software I can recommend is handbrake but you can do this via the editing software normally. Also if you're upload speeds are below 200kb/s you probably want to shave off as much of the excess footage as possible i.e. if gaming get rid of menu stuff, inventory stuff, traveling to locations etc... Even if these little parts are only 20-30 seconds. It can help, you might notice a 20min video all of a sudden becomes a 15min video because of all the excess stuff you edited out throughout the video. My 20min videos average around 700-900mb though. So it easily halves the upload times, on Aussie net I need to reduce upload times as much as I can. Although I try to keep LPs around 10-15mins as much as I can too.

Try exporting at 5mbps and keeping videos at 720P. Most people only watch it in 480P anyway. EDIT: Forgot to mention that the file format should be .mp4 at least for gaming videos.

Thanks for your reply. My videos are all in .mov so should I convert them to .mp4 instead then?
I already get rid of all the irrelevant stuff, and just keep the actually entertaining parts. I usually try to keep my videos between 10-20 minutes, and always export at 720p.
But thanks! I'll try converting to .mp4 and see if that reduces the file size.

You'er welcome, that might help. What software are you using to record and edit? If it's premiere you can export directly as MP4 but I'd recommend using software that records in MP4 format as well. Sometimes conversions using the editing software can go a bit iffy.

I record on my macbook (I know, its a gamer sin! I'm saving for a new computer, so hold fire!), so I use a program/app called screen recorder pro, which records in 720p and does whatever I need it to really.
And along with saving for a new computer, I'm also saving for new editing software, so again, I ask you to withhold judgement when I tell you I record with.... iMovie.... which exports in .mov

But I just converted one of the gaming videos I have on my computer to .mp4, and the file size went from 2.08GB to 611MB, so safe to say thats what I'll be doing from now on!

Actually as much as I hate Apple, it's pretty inevitable that MACs are designed for graphic design & media (I can hate something but I'm not blind to see benefits if something has it) and do well at it (although in recent years PCs are more than capable now), since you're a YouTuber, I can let this slide xD I'm glad it has helped, that's definitely going to save you a crapload of time uploading, roughly 6-7 hrs actually.

My Internet is even worse, only 0.3mbps but most of my videos are 10Minutes long and only 300mb and upload in 3 Hours, what are your settings? Try messing with your bit rate to decrease the file size while sustaining decent decent, YouTube compresses it anyway. :)
