Using videogame music outside of gameplay?

So I know many publishers don't get to angry about using video game music in lets plays and things of that nature. But what if I am using the music (very quiet) as background noise for pauses. The music is always from the game I am talking about at that point in time. Am I at any moderate risk for doing this?

There's always a risk with this kind of thing.

Most of the time companies don't care but bare in mind that with any music that is not copyright free you will never 100% be safe.

I use video game music in all my videos and have not once been copyrighted for that. Does not mean it will never happen though.

The channel RebelTaxi uses copyright music all the time. The only thing he does different is he puts the song name and artist name in the lower left hand corner when he plays it. idk if that helps or not.

For whatever it's worth, attribution is NOT a defense against copyright infringement. Attribution is only one part of the problem with copyright infringement -- the other part is compensation. (E.g., you're not paying for every use of that song.)

So, if you use that music, you are legally at the mercy of the copyright owner.

The practical question would be: is the music registered in content ID (which would mean it could get an automatic match)? If not, is the copyright owner manually issuing copyright strikes.

Content ID doesn't have every piece of music in it, which is why many people seem to "get away" with using copyrighted music. (But there are also a lot of videos on youtube where the monetization goes to youtube. Unless you're checking who is monetizing the video with a tool like TubeBuddy, you won't know about things like this.)

A lot of video game music composers do not have their music in content ID.
