Using a Costume in Videos?

just Moto

I Love YTtalk
I'm looking to use a costume of a character from a movie in videos and probably on a regular basis if it goes well. Given that it's going to cost a decent amount to buy it and it's from a popular movie I thought I should check if there is any legal issues doing this? I don't want to spend a tonne of money just to get in trouble.

Anyone?

Falls into that weird part of copyright like emulators - not legal, but doing no harm.
There are professional cosplayers out there who make a living by taking photos of themselves in costumes. They face no DMC's or anything

The costume designer got its money when you bought it. Theyd have a harder time in court if you made the costume but youd be the only person I know of to get in trouble for it.

Many huge channels use superhero costumes and toys and don't appear to have any problems monetizing, little bit of a grey area but you should be fine.

Yeah cool, I've paid for it now and it is now getting hand made in the States. Will be good to add a new dimension to my vids.

I can't reply to your messages yet, so here's what I was going to say.

A lot of Jukin's claims are false, they're strategic about videos though. They choose videos that they don't own the rights to, but the uploader probably doesn't own the rights to either. They usually reject every dispute without reviewing them, which violates YouTube's terms of use. YouTube won't take action though, because the bottom line is Jukin Media make them a lot of money. Not sure if you've heard of "Network Videos" or "Collab", but they're also notorious Content ID scammers.

I have access to Content ID through another company and I've already got a few creators on board and I know how to use the Content ID system. We're usually offering an 80 - 90% revenue share with no lock in. Also have a CMS with the ability to allow Content ID claims on channels, but it's just a temporary CMS that we're working with another media company on.

Jukin were very friendly with me as well when I joined, I had high hopes for the agreement. Whenever I needed help they made an excuse every time as to why they weren't able to help. I truly despise them, and I've had to resort to disputing the CID claim.

Keen to be updated with more info on your company when the times right mate

Awesome, great to hear. I'll get back to you soon while we flatten out some CMS issues that we're having, we're nearing a public launch date soon.

Great. I source videos on a weekly basis for my channel. If I can work something out with a company that will give me a safe guard listing against copyright strikes on content I use then I will be steering all original copyright owners that want to sell their content in your direction as I refuse to sit around being bullied by companies who thing they are untouchable. Ill message you with a contact address for me
