Use of Handbrake for dealing with game footage when recording at 60fps

Hi guys,

I've been recording my game footage in OBS for the last few weeks of content I've been making, which has been encoding at 1080p 60fps MP4 format files, which I then throw into Vegas Pro 14 for editing. However I've seen a few people on various subreddits and such talk about using something called Handbrake on their videos before editing. Now I'll admit I've not heard of it before but when looking into it, it appears to be some kind of video transcoder.

Is there anyone here who may use Handbrake who might be able to explain why it's a good step to use it, or if I even need to use it at all given my current workflow/settings? If there is, I would be most appreciative of it as if it will benefit my footage in the long run then I'd like to see what it can do.

Thanks in advance, guys!

Karl

I often use Handbrake to optimize the file's dimensions before uploading (slow internet and all that jazz), and sometimes it halved if not more the final result so I can't complain, so I guess it can be used in the middle of the workflow as well. Having a reduced file size means less time spent importing it in the video editor, or any kind of operation that takes longer with large file sizes

It makes my 20-30gb .AVIs less than 100mb Mp4s, ready to upload. You can mess with the settings and make it do anything. Normally I go for very high quality, but it's just me. Definitly recommended!

I love handbreak, it's a great video converter. Just make sure that you get the settings right on it before converting anything (make sure that you set the framerate to 60fps). It's really fast and makes the files so much smaller, while still looking great!
