Use of copyrighted music question

Alright so I'm a fan of meekakitty and nanalew on youtube, and they both have videos that heavily use copyrighted music. Like their music video for sail by awolnation and their music video for like a love song by selena gomez. I'm curious to how it was they were able to do that and get away with it. I don't think they got permission from the individual artists.

and they are monetized 0.0, either they know famous people or their agents, or more likely they evaded a ban and are committing copyright infringement on a grand scale.

They may have gotten permission. Or, Youtube tends to look the other way if the bigger youtubers do this. (So I've heard). Or..the owner of the songs, may have claimed copyright on it, and they take any money that is made from the video perhaps. I'm not an expert...but these are things I have picked up/noticed along the way.

They don't get away with it. They simply don't earn any revenue from it-all the ads run on those videos belong to the record companies. Both Shawna and Tessa have said that they don't earn any income from those videos.
