Uploading format?

For my videos, I use a Nikon dslr to film. Once edited, I export from imovie as an .mp4 1080p video. Then, I convert it into a quicktime (.mov) and upload it. When it's as a quicktime, the quality isn't horrible, but it's definitely not 1080p. Then on YouTube, my videos playback as 360p. Am I doing something wrong with the way I convert it? Or should I try a different format? Thanks!

You don't use any editing software by the looks of things I suggest buying Sony Vegas as it'll retain it's 1080p quality :)
You can pick up Sony Vegas for about £30 off amazon.
I hope this helped :)

Yeah I use Sony Vegas as well, very professional and not too hard. You can also use Adobe Preimere as I hear that is also very good but nonetheless pricey.

I upload in .mp4, seems to retain the quality well enough. AVI is also good but the file sizes are ginormous. .wmv in my experience has been low quality not sure about MPEGs though.

When I have mp4s, I always use MP4 FastStart. YouTube will ignore the quality of a video if its metadata for quality is in the back, such as the case of mp4s.

It's always an issue with the format

Um why are you converting an MP4 to a Mov ? MP4 is pretty good quality I find to use on youtube

Whenever I try to upload using a mp4, it doesn't upload. It will stay processing forever. I looked at the supported uploading formats, and mp4 was not listed[DOUBLEPOST=1387832629][/DOUBLEPOST]

Do you have any suggestions for me?

MPEG-4 (MP4) is supported its good format to use (I use it for my gaming vids and works great)
There could be difference I'll admit since i use MPEG-4 files could be why mine work

Get "Free Video Joiner". Yes. it is free, and it does more than just stitch together clips (including any mixed formats).

It also reduces the file size by about 50% when it joins or does it's thing. You can use it on a single clip.

And it converts to any popular file type.

I use MP4 (same as from my Nikon) or AVI to upload.

Did I mention it's free ?

Great little program.

Perfect result every time, and quite fast to recompile.

Cheers
