Upgrading to T6i?

I currently use a Canon Rebel T3i, but the the lack of auto-focus while filming is really challenging. I've had the camera for 2.5 years now, and it has really taken my videos to the next level and while it wasn't the main factor in channel growth, I know that it helped to have more quality content.

Thinking of upgrading to the Canon T6i. Wondered if anyone out there can speak to it as a camera overall, especially for video. It's a big investment, but I'm hoping it will be personally and professionally worth it.

I don't think the difference between the T3i and T6i is worth an upgrade. If you know what you're doing, you can get a lot out of the T3i. A YouTube channel called DSLRGuide is a good example of this. I don't know what kind of videos you make but for most people auto-focus is not beneficial because it's not that good on lower grade cameras like the Rebel series. I own the Canon T6s and when filming with auto focus I can be sure that at least 20% of the video will be out of focus unless I stand completely still. :)

Unless auto-focus is completely essential for you than it would be a much better investment for you to buy a better lens for the price you would pay for the T6i.
Another suggestion is to save up more and upgrade to the 70D. That's when you will really start seeing a difference between the 2 cameras plus the auto focus is better than on the T6i :).
I know it's hard to wait few more months when you are in the mindset of buying a new cameras but it's so worth the wait. I made the mistake myself so many times. I would be super excited to buy some more gear so I end up buying a cheaper option and then I regret not waiting more until I could afford the better option.

70D is a way better consideration if your looking for video + autofocusing IMO. I just upgraded to a 70d with a USM lense and I can just say WOW. It has super silent autofocus on the subject during live video. touch screen focusing too. While youre filming just tap the screen where you want to focus and bam great focusing! If you already have a few lenses you can get a 70d body on ebay for $700. This is my opinion mind you and I upgraded from a 60D I had for 2.5 years and was kind blown away and wondered why I hadn't upgraded sooner!
