Upgrading to Final cut pro?

Im using iMovie and and older Macbook pro from 2009. Im thinking about getting a new Mac Book Pro and upgrading to Final cut. My wife is a teacher and, the teacher deal is $299 plus you get 5 other programs. Regular its $399 alone. Seems like a no brainer to me. What do you think. This is also in Canadian dollars. Worth upgrading?

Get outta here with that bunk. I'm upgrading to Vegas.... someday.

Anyway, does Final Cut Pro have compositing too, or is it just an editor? If it can composite (do special effects and whatnot) then go for it. but it's a little pricey...
