Understanding the YouTube Algorithm

Firstly, just want to say that this post might come off as me saying that i 'deserve' to get pushed by the algorithm, i don't want it to come off like that i'm just trying to understand it a little more.

In my niche there has been a recent event that a lot of people are searching for. One small creator with say 3k subs made a video that went fairly viral and has got around 40k views in under a week. I have made a similar video that is outperforming all of my other videos massively. I am a new creator and average around 50-100 views a video after a week or two and my one has already got 200 in just over 12 hours. The metrics are looking crazy so far, 211 views off 350 impressions, some of these are external/direct from links viewers have posted onto other videos but the CTR is 19.3%. The watch time is good - around 35%, engagement is good with 15 likes and 16 comments (on 211 views).

Just trying to understand why YouTube hasnt pushed this onto homepage/suggested? even though it is already ranking highly in search and has good metrics?

Obviously the video is doing kind of well as its outperforming all of my other videos significantly, just wondering why it hasn't got multiple thousands yet as YouTube seems to only be pushing it onto homepage a tiny bit (all of my subs + say 30 extra people).

The reason i ask is because i had a different channel a few years ago (but i was very un-interested in the topic so stopped shortly after starting) and one of my early videos got pushed onto homepage and i got 10k views overnight when the channel only had like 20 subscribers. I guess that must have just been a really rare occurrence?
