Turtle Beach vs Blue Yeti for Live Gameplay

Josh Keatley

I've Got It
The turtle Beaches (or any good gaming headset) is more convenient when your playing a game live and making a video.

My blue yeti is very nice for commentaries over my gameplay and obviously has better audio quality then my turtle beaches x12.

Should I be using my blue yeti for live gameplay too? If so where and how would I position the mic? I can't have it directly in front of me because I need to be able to see my tv to play my game. Should I position my mic on some boxes maybe in front but below me some? Should I buy a mic stand and position the mic to the left or right of me? What do the "pro/big" youtubers do?

Any advice or opinions would be awesome! Thanks guys!

I find headset mics to be terrible quality.

The ideal setup is to have a boom mic so it can be off to the side and held in front of you. With a stand it kinda gets in the way of your keyboard.

I use to use Turtle Beaches for live commentaries. It is just more convenient. Also, the game audio wont get recorded by the mic as it is coming from the headset. As for quality, the mic on my turtle beaches is really good, so there is no issue there.

That is a really good idea! Would you suggest replacing the blue yeti for a rode boom mic and mic stand or should I still use my yeti for commentaries? It will prob take me a couple of months to save up for rode boom mic and stand. :-( I got so much expensive stuff for youtube on my to buy list like xbox one, external hard drive, and a camera.[DOUBLEPOST=1393853258,1393853044][/DOUBLEPOST]

I/ you should always record your voice separate from the game audio anyhow. I record my voice using audacity. So you have the option to use game mic like turtle beaches or your microphone. It took me almost 2 years on youtube to get a good mic. Many people have told me I need to get a better mic back when I was just using turtle beaches. I agree though I think I sound all right with turtles beaches but others can tell the difference.

If you want to gain more subs, because your content is more professional than others, then using a quality mic will enable you to do that. Get a mic stand, that way you can position how you want it.
