Timing a script?

Uh? So I'm currently writing scripts for a South Park-ish cutout styled animated series with 20+ minute long episodes (like an actual TV show) for my new channel. I want to make sure that the scripts aren't too long or short, especially since cartoons take a lot of work.

I know about the 1 page = 1 minute rule, but from my experiences that isn't usually the case. So my idea is to start a timer and "play" the cartoon in my head and read the dialog out loud like the characters would. Then do it again (maybe 3 or 4 times?) and average the times together. But maybe the YTtalk community would know a better way to time scripts or possibly know some helpful tips/advice about script timing?

Write your script as how you think it will work best. Than indeed play the script and record. "Read through"

In the end when you animate you also first record sounds and animate after so It's good to test with this and see if the humor already works without images. Rewrite script if needed, add/remove parts. And have fun while making. :)

The 1min page is 1m on screen doesn't have to be accurate at all.

I think most scripts on TV shows tend to go over in length at first, and then they remove some things and delete some of the recorded scenes to get it back down. And if you do that, then you can upload deleted scenes as a bonus.

Yeah I think I'll do that, since it's better to have too much than not enough.
