i would like to know if is it legal to take any image from google and use it on my thumbnails ?
will i receive a copyright strike ?

While you may not get a copyright strike from YouTube, just taking any image from Google could be violating the copyright of the owner of that image. You'd need to seek out licensing for any image you used.

Wikipedia has a good source of Creative Commons licensed and public domain images that you can use: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Free_media_resources/Photography

No, check my edit, I added the page source. You need to understand the copyright status of any image you use (public domain, Creative Commons etc.) and take the relevant steps to ensure you conform - as long as you want to stay on the right side of copyright law.
