hey i'd like to know what kind of programs all of you use for recording/producing if you make music. :)

also i'm looking for a program i could use for sounds like rain, thunder, steps on the floor you know stuff like that. do you have any ideas??

Well, Audacity is nice because it's free and will do most recording and editing functions that one will need. Regardless of the program you use, you will need samples if you want sounds like footsteps, thunder, etc. Programs don't generate those on their own. You would have a .wav file and could adjust the pitch, volume, blah blah blah and of course place it where you want in a song.

Most audio recording programs (Audacity included) operate with a timeline of some sort where you can place all kinds of things to run whenever you want.

Personally for music though, I would suggest a program called Cakewalk. It's far less daunting than the more professional Pro Tools or Cubase.
