There are a few things to think about before starting a new channel on YouTube, many people wont think of these things and rush in and end up regretting a few things here and there. This article is to help you avoid such a scenario.

Channel/Username

One of the first think about when making a new channel on YouTube is what your username is going to be. You will want it to be relevant to the content you are creating or completely generic so you can adjust as needed with content. Try and get something people will be able to remember, sit down and write a list of preferred names and then pick the best one and ask family and friends for help if you can.

The Content

It is always best to know what you will be creating your videos about before starting your new channel. Have a good long think about what you are going to be doing first and if possible have a video or two ready to upload as soon as you join, any visitors to your channel will get to see your first videos and they may subscribe, comment or like them and it is much better than a blank channel with a promise of future videos. As the saying goes, first impressions are lasting ones and setting off on the right foot will give you the best results.

Brandability

Have a think about how you're going to brand your channel. If your channel is about gaming make sure to think hard about your username as you will want something that appeals to gamers, something brandable like "GamesPlayedDaily" or "MyGameZone" works better than say "micksshot002". Think about getting yourself a background from one of the background websites, tuning the colours to look presentable and also your icon, you will want an icon that goes well with your content, your personality and your channel in general for gaming this could be a game character with your channel name on it. Try and do things that will be memorable and the kind of things that you see that keep you going back for more elsewhere.

Making Money

It is best not to go into it expecting to make money because a lot of the time you wont make anything for a while until you have built up a good strong audience and have returning visitors to your videos. Money should come in time with the hobby you enjoy. There are people who have went into it wanting to make money and that is fine but I believe you will keep going better if it is something you love.

Keep em coming back

You want your visitors and subscribers to come back and you need to offer them something to achieve this, have a good think about what you can offer in your videos and what you could do differently to others to keep people coming back to you and not someone else.

Keep it flowin'

You want to choose a niche or video type genre that you can keep going for as long as possible into the forseeable future. Making a channel about a fad or craze may only last as long as the craze itself leaving you only with die hard fans. An example of this could be if you made a Black Ops only channel, in ten years time only a small minority will be playing the game. If you made a channel about gaming in general then you will be able to talk about all new games out and gamign in general, leaving you many more video options allowing you to keep the new videos flowing and a constant stream of interested subscribers and visitors.

If you are making a new YouTube channel please consider the above before making one, I wish you every success on YouTube in the future with it and I hope this helps you out.
