The mystery of that ONE video!

I Love YTtalk
I started using youtube over 10 years ago to host videos to share with family and friends. It was not until last year that I started to really develop my channel for the public. Over the years I made some videos just for fun. Like this cheezy video I made to mock TV infomercials.

I made that video for fun and to play around with my new video editing software. It has done nothing as far as views all these years.

But I have another video that I also made for fun that is not even as good as that one, but it my most popular video. I made it on the spur of the moment with an old smartphone. The video quality is very poor, I was talking off the cuff with no script. I made a lot of mistakes and errors in it. It was just for fun and I never thought that it would do anything. Here it is.

Okay, so this one video is not only my most popular video, it has had over 260 thousand views. It is responsible for more then half of my totall views count for my channel. It is my best revenue earner. I gets the most likes, comment, shares, subs, etc.

So, the Mystery here is this. Why? What makes this video so different? I am now making videos that are way superior then this one, but they can't even compete with it. What is the majical formula that I hit with this video?

Honestly, now that my channel is growing and is public I would like to replace it, but I can't because it does more by itself then all my other videos combined.

Why is this ONE video so popular? I would love to know what I did so I can learn to recreate it.

Welcome to the 80/20 rule: 80% of your views come from 20% of your videos. Within that top 20%, 80% of those views will come from 20% of the videos, and so on. It's not always strictly 80/20 but over time and a large enough sample, things tend to be this way. This isn't an algorithm thing, it's really how a lot of things work out mathematically in the world.

Don't bash your head against a wall trying to figure it out, just make the best videos you can make, and also try to make some sequels, spinoffs and reaction videos to squeeze more views out of your top videos.

Because this thread is written as very channel-specific, I've moved it to the reviews / channel feedback forum. ^_^

Your second video is a how to, if people are looking how to do something and you are what they are looking for and your idea is unique, then of course all the viewwws

I have tons of "How to" videos. Even one covering the same thing as the one that is so popular. Yes, How To videos are my best performing videos, but that one video does more then all the others COMBINED. It just makes no sense to me.

One day I hope I get to a point where I don't need that video. I have come really far since I made it and am making much better more professional looking videos now days and that one is so amateurish. Honestly, I don't like it. I just wish I could find out what people like about it so much. It has been shared almost 200 times just this month.

I had something similar happen to a channel that I had last year. I had a bunch of informative videos and then, on a whim, I threw together a quick video to test out a niche and it quickly started bringing in several hundred daily views. There was nothing special about the video: the audio was bad, slides were amateurish, etc, but for some reason it was outperforming every other video on my channel. Traffic from YouTube is weird, because it can come from so many different places, and I think that's why things like this happen. Sometimes things just catch a lucky break.

like babyteeth said, I wouldn't try to over analyze it; just keep plugging away b/c I don't think there was a special formula for that video; just the right place at the right time.

for instance, I have tons of healthy meal prep videos and my most popular one which has I can't recall exactly; maybe close to 200K views is quite shaky, the closeup of my face is way too close for comfort and the actual meals are ehh compared to my newer videos yet it is very popular. I just attribute it to a little luck.

I guess you are right. The only thing that makes this one video is that I made some political statements in it and I don't do that in any of my other videos. That might be the key itself.
