Tags, Seo and any other tips.

Hey YtTalk,

so i been watching alot of these "youtube help tip" videos and alot of them talk about tags and seo, for the tags what kind of thing are we talking about because most of the tags i do relate to the video, seo i have no idea how to do that on youtube.

Basically all i would like to know is any tips on the video tags and how the seo works on youtube vids

SEO means "search engine optimization". Tagging is inputting relevant keywords for your video so that it is visible to search. Suppose you out a tag called "bunnies eating food", whenever someone searches for a video using "bunnies eat food" that video will pop up.

However, you cannot just blindly tag random keywords in the tagging section. Those keywords must also be included in the description box for more relevance (that way it prevents spam). What is also good for SEO is if you upload a properly written transcript for the subtitles. Google will find some important keywords from the transcript and direct some traffic to you. DNews did this study a few years back, and they found they gained ten percent more usual traffic when enabling subtitles than those which aren't.

Ah brilliant thank you for your reply, thats definitely something ill look into in the future, and also none of my tags are in the description so i will also start adding them into that, thank you

You're welcome. Just don't put your tags into the description like a list of words. That is actually considered cheating, and from what I have heard YouTube purged a lot of videos back in July because of the description box being abused.
 
Best tags if you're a new channel are the things people will be searching for. If your video is an unboxing of the Canon G7x camera, then good tags include "Canon unboxing","Canon G7x unboxing", "G7x unboxing", "G7 unboxing", etc. Most people make the mistake as new channels of going for one word tags, but those are already out-competed. There are millions of videos tagged "unboxing", and millions tagged "canon", but only hundreds/thousands at most with the longer tags, so you have a chance to dominate them.

Make sure you include the main tag in your title and description too. But don't fill your description with tags, instead use the tag naturally in a normal language description. For example, if your tags are "Canon unboxing" and "Canon G7x unboxing" then "In this video I unbox my new camera. This Canon g7x unboxing video is something that's exciting for me as I've been waiting for this new camera for a while, and while this is my first canon unboxing video, I hope you'll enjoy it" - notice how I used both tags, but made it in normal language? Google/YouTube likes that - you can't just spam tags, but including the tags in normal sentences, boosts your search rankings. Also include it in your title, so in this example "Canon G7x unboxing" would be my title.

Oh there's a very great blog that I read on how you can look for tags and how you can make a great title and also how long should your description blogs is to be higher in SEO. :) one of the techniques I tried is use the search option of twitter and then look for words that are related to your niche and those with many word that is chosen then you have to get it.. For example i searched minecraft story mode I can get some words there that it is a narrative tell tale game that it is an adventure game. Then after that you can go to steam if you are a gamer there are lots of comments to see there too.. Sometimes I get my description there too.. I started yesterday to change all the tags I put on my video and I got 135 views a day and 2 new subscriber that has no channel on it.. :)
