Subscribers not adding up...

So My question is this.. on this forum it says I have one X number of subscribers... on YouTube it says I have Y number of subscribers.... When I click the subscriber button on YouTube and actually count them its a different number from X and Y... has anyone else noticed this ever.. and which is the real amount?

I think it's bot, yesterday i have notification on my email, there is one subscriber gained. YT said, the user don't have channel yet, so when i check in subscriber list, there is not exist.

OK what is the bot and why would someone want to do that?
