Yeah I pretty much refuse to do sub4sub. I'm sort of new and have very little subscribers, like 4, but I would never consider it because I find it rather pathetic (thus my pride would not allow it, if I'm going to get subs, I'm going to earn them by working towards ace content. And I won't subscribe to anyone unless I like their videos). It ticks me off because.... I admit... I have read those "How to get more subscribers" articles because I honestly don't know how to gain a following, but they NEVER provide anything insightful. Its always "Do sub4sub and send out tons of friends requests and send your videos to people." NO. Whenever someone sends me their video I delete the message and don't even look. If you have to spam me to get views, no thanks.
It may take a while, but I'll take the high road over the shameful one any day. That way when some day I actually do have somewhat of a following and someone asks me how I got it, I can say that I earned every single viewer because I am good at what I do. Not because I was a spamming idiot desperate for attention.

Getting popular on Youtube has to do with relevant traffic, not people randomly subscribing cause you told em too

Exactly. What's the point of having 200 subscribers if none of them even care about watching your videos? I'd rather have 20 that watch and comment on my videos regularly than 200 that don't. Heck I'd rather have 20 loyal subscribers than 2,000 who don't give a rats behind.
