Stopmotion Vs 3D Computer Generated Animation Sketch

Hey everyone!

For part of my third, final year at uni, I want to do a short film based around stopmotion vs 3D computer gen animation! The idea is that characters will be interviewed from both forms of animation, about their animation styles making it self referential, for example the stopmotion will discuss how he is always manipulated and moved around by other peoples etc. It'll be in the style of an interview to them. At one point I think it would even be good to pull out from the animation and actually see us, the film makers, creating the movement ie us actually manipulating the character kind of like in The Lego Movie (the bit with will ferrel and his son!)? I want it to be funny at the same time and maybe almost like an argument between the two possibly? It draws a lot of inspiration from creature comforts! I used to love that show when I was younger - very funny!

What do you guys think? Does it sound interesting to you? Any ideas you have fire away to me - I love hearing advice and tips to make the idea better as I only want the best for it!

Also because I am at uni, I am obviously on a budget. We have studios available to us, but if anyone could give me any tips on the stopmotion side of things to make it good, while maybe lowering the cost? What is the most efficient way to be as professionaly as possible without spending all the dolla?

Many thanks for your time!

Lauren :)

maybe rather than being a general interview about what they do and who they are it could be them talking about their problems, like seeing a psychiatrist for example and explaining to them in a video about what they don't like about being and stop animated character or 3D animated character.
The stop motion guy/gal could explain how he is consistently harassed and feels sometimes its sexual. The doctor would ask where they touched him and he whispers with tears in his/her eyes "Everywhere". They could then explain they got a restraining order but it hasnt stopped them. He/she hates to be touched. Make references to how lighting always flickers, their house seems to shimmy from side to side some times. Explain how when they stop touching him/her they try to stand as still as possible hoping they will go away.

With 3D animation they feel like they are on drugs all the time. He could be walking down the street one day and then suddenly he is stuck in the floor and cant get out. Or when they look left for some reason everything goes black.
If they walk into the corner of a room and look upwards slightly half their head disappears.

Think about all the bugs and problems you get with both animation styles and use that to your advantage for explaining the two styles in depth whilst keeping it funny.
