Stick With It: 10,000 Hours to be Great

I'm starting a new channel called StickWithItLiza, and basically my whole idea for it is to document my journey into becoming better at stuff. It was basically inspired by the idea that it takes 10,000 hours of effort into practicing a skill to be good at it, and basically I wanted to get better at making videos and talking to a camera.

So I decided to try to kill two birds with one stone and document myself learning/practicing new things while making videos/talking to a camera! So hopefully the more I make these videos, and the better I get at whatever I'm practicing, the better videos I'll make!

The thing right now is that I'm not quite sure what or how to do things. Like so far right now, I'm learning how to skateboard and I was thinking of just vlogging that, but would just all vlogs be too boring? Any ideas for things I could do or how I could document it? I would love to hear some suggestions!

If you're learning how to skateboard, you have to get some video of you attempting to skateboard! That could be some awesomely watchable video. Skateboarders will love it and people who have thought about it will be inspired when they see how you started, and then how far you've come when you start getting better!

Get a friend to record you trying to skateboard, or if you want to do this alone get a cheap tripod to get some shots of yourself. Better yet, if you have the money get a GoPro helmet/chest mount so you can get a record of this.[DOUBLEPOST=1402326742,1402326701][/DOUBLEPOST]BTW, this is a great idea for a video series and I wish you luck!

I think this is a super cool idea! Outside of weight loss, I've never really seen a channel devoted to trying something new and showing progress as you go through it, so this sounds really original to me. And like mentioned before, it'd probably inspire other people to try new things.

Really cool idea! :) I've always been interested in that 10,000 hours to become great at something thing since I was told that by my violin teacher when I was a kid.

I've seen that video of the girl learning to dance over the course of one year. You could try an artistic endeavor like dancing, or painting, or learning an instrument.

Learning to skateboard would be something interesting to watch! Like learning how to do a few specific tricks. I guess it's probably best to stick with only one or two things.

If you're doing the skateboarding thing, maybe vlog about the research you do to get into skateboarding, show yourself buying the skateboard, if you're really feeling brave, go out and interview some skateboarders in your area and ask them for tips, and then film yourself practicing.

Yeah, I was thinking of that! Like doing some short vloggy type videos on it. Thank you!

Yeah, I was actually considering a fitness-type thing, but nah. I'll stick with tumblr for that. :) I might do some fitness/sport-type things on this channel sometime too though. And I was thinking of some music stuff too. Like I already know how to play a couple of instruments, but I'm planning to make covers and write songs too, even though they might be really bad at first. Hahaha.

Yeah! I've heard of it plenty times before, but I watched Anna Akana's video on it recently and it really inspired me! I'm actually not planning to learn tricks (oh no, does this count as part of my commitment issues, hence starting the StickWithIt thing?) on the skateboard, because I have such a tiny board and I was just planning to use it as mostly transportation/cruising, but I guess I'll see how it goes. I'll definitely try some of those ideas! Thank you!

This is one of the coolest ideas I've seen for a series in a long time. Please, do this! I've been skateboarding for 5 years, and it'd be awesome to see a persons journey from beginner to pro! ;)
