Starting Equipment and Advice

Hello.

Currently, if you haven't read my introduction, I am looking to open my own channel as a hobby. I am hoping to teach game development as well as game and give my designers perspective on it, as I constantly analyze games and such. I'd also love to recreate elements from games so people can replicate them if they make their own games with ease.

So, currently, I haven't done anything yet, still gathering equipment I'd like to use and such, and gathering courage to speak as a trans on youtube pretty much. Basically, equipment I currently have:

  • Logitech C920 HD webcam
  • Samson Go Mic Portable microphone
  • Dragonpad USA Pop Filter
  • NEEWER Microphone suspension Boom Arm Stand.
This is all I have so far, besides my game development knowledge and such. Is there any advice you all can give for me as well as equipment advice?

I'm actually really interested in doing something similar. /Subbed. I'll be waiting.

First thing you have to do is drink some water, take a deep breath, and relax. Your channel is your virtual house, be the master of it. Your equipment sounds like a great place to start already, I started last year with much less and even now, 'tween you and me, I'm having to use a cell phone as my main recording device. So, you're well equipped for the first dungeon.

Make sure you've got some good software and then just trust yourself to make the content you want.

If you've any more questions or need advice in the future, I'm always around.
Sit up straight and embrace the next steps!

I hope to see you start making content soon! Gaining confidence, especially in your case, is very hard :( But with time and perseverance I'm sure you will thrive! I'm a YouTuber of 8 years and if you need any help or any tips, just ask (my channel trailer might be able to motivate)! Your equipment seems perfect for what you want to do. Please know that you are welcomed here and I cannot wait until you start making stuff!

Thanks for the sub, even though I haven't yet made anything yet. Maybe once I have gotten off my feet, we can do a collaboration at some stage.

For what you are trying to do I think you have all the equipment you need. A good microphone, a pop filter and a boom arm to hold it too. The HD webcam just being a bonus it seems like unless you plan on showing your face to your audience. Unless you are looking at more expensive equipment of course.

To me it seems like you got everything. All that's left (which I'm sure you have too) is a custom built (or simply powerful) PC to do all your gaming on recording on. If you plan on recording console games then I'd recommend adding a Capture Card (my favorite being the Elgato HD) to your list of equipment. Since it records at 1080p or 720p with 60fps.

Hope that helps bud. =] And best of luck to your channel!

Based on what I saw from a big variety of Youtubers, you'll be fine with what you have now. Heck, on my first channel i started with a crappy mic for like 5-ish dollars.
You don't need expensive equipment from the start, all you need is to be interested in what you are doing and have fun. In the future, you may move to a DLSR or digital cameras, more expensive microphones, maybe get a sound room for recordings, but as a start, you really don't need much.
