Special effect software ?

Hello!
I am looking for a free special effect program to add some cool effects in my videos. By exemple an explosion or some smoke. I dont know if you guys know some. I did some research and couldnt find any.

What editing program do you use?
You maybe can download pre rendered alpha footage and place it on top of your current video's.
Or effects with black background and use an overlay to blend it in your video.
 
I use VideoPad Video Editor, a very simple and free to use editor, until my trial is over I guess. I don't really get what you mean by alpha footage but I think I get your idea. If you have a better free editor that can do that, it would be neat.
 
there arent any decent free special effect programs, although blender does composting it is a 3d program[DOUBLEPOST=1365455457,1365455381][/DOUBLEPOST]well, for little explosions and green screening there are alot of software that will offer that with a 30 day free trial, and usually are cheap

Yeah, try and see if you can get a trial version of Adobe After Effects since that's probably the best thing to have for Special FX.

There's probably some free ones out there but the quality will probably be either choppy or not good.

I hate to be that person, but I highly doubt there is any software for these purposes that you can get for free, legally. There might be CHEAP software, but certainly not FREE.
 
SIDENOTE: I'm also using Videopad right now, after your trial ends your forced to buy a license but I would've rather bought Sony Vegas or Movie Studio Platinum if I had read more about them :(

My trial just expired. SO thanks a lot for giving those two new editors. Im gonna try each of them before making a final choice.[DOUBLEPOST=1365541448,1365535165][/DOUBLEPOST]ok I just edited my video with Sony Vegas and the sound is waaaay too fast for the image! I dont get it.... Like even in the editor screen the image goes slow and the sound is at normal pace. ???? helppp
