Sony Vegas 12 Bug - Help?!

Here's the deal.

I have Sony Vegas 12. I was rendering a bunch of large files. The preview window was getting choppy and I needed to see, in good detail, what was going on at all times.

I added a bit more ram to the preview, something I've done on occasion. This time while in that options screen, I noticed an option for "GPU Acceleration" for processing or something similar. I thought I'd add that on since I have dual cards, SLI.

I go back out to continue working on my video, press spacebar to watch the video and the program freezes. Vegas never freezes or crashes for me at all.

I restart the program and it hangs on "initializing gpu accelerated...". After about 5 minutes, the interface loads. I press play to watch the preview and it completely locks up the program.

I reload the program, go into the options. I turn gpu acceleration off. I hit okay and the program locks up. I can't shut the problem off!

So far I have tried:
-Running the program as admin
-Setting the compatibility of the program to a previous version
-Installing the latest video drivers
-rebooting/shutting down my computer.

I have been searching for a few hours for answers to which I have found none.

I am on a very tight timeline and any help would be appreciated.

If you're going to suggest I reinstall Vegas, please tell me how to do this without losing my saved templates/presets. I can't find any information on how to do this anywhere either.

Thanks for your time!

Theres this here which mentions where the render templates are stored in 9 but it mentions using the preset manager which I have never heard of before which you can download from sony:

You could try holding control and shift down before clicking on the shortcut to the program, thats meant to reset everything to default, I would only do that though if you dont mind losing your templates as that could affect them.

I had a very similar problem recently with GPU acceleration switched off, it turned out to be the AMD SDK App and Transcoder driver thats installed by the Catalyst manager. Heres a link to my solution thread although this might not help you if you have an Nvidia card(s):

Good luck :)

Thanks Michael. I appreciate your post!

I looked at the preset manager and it appears that won't help.

Yeah, I am using Nvidia cards. :(

I guess I'll try the control-shift start option later today. Want to wait and see if someone out there has a solution throughout the day, first.

Thanks again,
Mike
