Softboxes

I really want to get a soft box at some point but they are so expensive. It either costs $200+ to buy one locally or $100 dollars for shipping alone for any others.
Any good alternatives or retailers in or close to Australia that you can suggest?

My friend uses a white shower cap over a light bulb and it seems to work quite nicely for him. It's ridiculously cheap too.

Wow that's actually a really smart idea I might have to try that thanks.
Sure, no problem. I think it costs about $20.00 to make it. Just make sure to use the light bulbs that do not get really hot.

This is the basic setup he has... Not as rigged as this guy has it, haha.
He uses a smaller holder (metal part) but it serves its purpose.

You can go on AMAZON.. Get a normal lamp.. and a China Ball.. this will create a soft light effect. You can get the lamps and china balls for about 30 bucks and have 3 of them.

I was able to buy two soft boxes with 125W bulbs in each, three backdrops (green, white and black), stands for everything and bags that fit it all in for $150AU on eBay with free shipping. It's absolutely wonderful. You can buy just the soft boxes off them for about $70AU and they're completely worth it.
