So what should my profile avatar be?? Any great ideas??

I have created a new channel and am going to start making videos pretty soon and I need a picture on my profile avatar.

But I don't really know what should I put as my profile avatar on my channel and at the same time I want it to look appealing and professional looking.

So what should my profile avatar be?? Should I have a picture of me as my avatar or make a custom made avatar?? Any great ideas??


BTW I am going to make Vlogs/Sketches, Challenges and EPIC pranks on my new channel and the video content I am going to be making should be overhauled and way better quality then before!! :)

Depends if you want to brand yourself or if you want to brand a channel.

If you're branding yourself, then a nice picture of yourself will do! But if you want to create a channel with graphics and logos and CREATE a brand, then opt for a more professional logo

Found you on here, subscribed to you a while ago(over a year ago now) and I think your videos are great and entertaining to watch, you are funny and I want to say keep up the awesome work, You have potential to be big on YouTube Brett mate!! :D :D

Wow! thank you very much! I'm just getting back into it after taking roughly a year off hahah

I'll be looking at your channel and when your new channel comes out I'll be sure to check it out as well!!
 
Hey there Billy! Because you're a vlogging/sketch channel, I think a picture of you would be best. It doesn't necessarily have to be studio quality but if you have a friend with a DSLR or you have one, get it taken on that. Edit it up with photoshop a bit to make the colours more vibrant or however you want it and then it'll look really good. If you can't access a DSLR, taking a photo on the camera you are using now will still be really good if you get outdoors in some good lighting :)

Thanks Chris that what I was thinking have a great photo of myself which I think it is definitely the way to go and branding myself on YouTube which I want!!

You have a great photo avatar your self mate!! Thought I ask Did you edit in Photoshop or put it on your YouTube channel with out editing?? and if you did edit in Photoshop what stuff did you make your photo avatar look better?? :)
 
Probably use a picture of you, or something you like. DON'T use just a couple letters, like most gaming channels do, I find them unappealing personally.

I'm glad you came to that conclusion man, I think having a photo of you is definitely the way to go. This is your life that you're sharing with us and it's good to be able to put a face to the brand!

Thanks a lot dude, I appreciate them kind words :). My photo is actually a still shot of one of my videos, I really need to get around to changing it soon. I've got some big ideas for a profile pic when I morph into a half fitness/self-development channel but that's like a year away, when I actually attain a good physique haha.

I did edit mine in Photoshop! Nothing too fancy, I just adjusted the contrast and brightness slightly to make it to my liking. My lighting in this video was pretty ideal in my personal opinion though so I didn't have to mess with it too much. Best of luck with getting yourself a profile picture, brother :)
 
Most of the avatars I've seen vloggers have (just a personal observation) a close up picture of themselves. Kinda just head and shoulders cropped in. Maybe try and make the picture look energetic, engaging, something along those lines. It's hard to explain, but basically a picture as you would have on your pasport is not an exciting one.
 
I agree with the comments above. Your own picture is, in my opinion, the best idea for your avatar. You can do one like @ChrisLegend.

I have opened a new tab for another post, where I saw the avatar of @Freshly Finished . An artistic touch for a face avatar looks really cool.

P.S: Please don't judge me on my avatar. It is a temporary one, where I put a picture of my son. I'm working with a creative friend to make a YouTube banner & avatar, which would fit better for my audience.
