A few people might cringe at the sigh of paint.net... especially if you've worked with Photoshop or other top dollar programs.. But honestly, for small channels, Paint.net is amazing. Its an free way to learn how to make banners, icons and other images you may need.. I use it for all my YouTube graphics because its simple and free! Try it out before spending heaps of coin on editing software, its worth the look.. You can go check out my banner and icon if you wish.. I quite like them :)

Yeah man, good work on your channel artwork. Paint.net definitely is a great option, one I haven't recommended before. But I'll definitely be passing on from now on.

Thumbnails don't have to be anything crazy or technical, even the most simplest thumbnails can look the best. It's all about colours, composition and readability. Some of the best thumbnails I've seen are just images and text.
