So I've been contacted to have one of our videos licensed...

Asia's Redheaded Step-Child
And I wanted to get some thoughts before I made a decision. We just released a new video today (the new one in my signature), and within like an hour, a woman tweeted at me and said she'd like to talk to me about our video and left a private comment on the video. It was a pretty long comment that they probably copy + paste on all videos they try to license, but at least both her Twitter account AND the YouTube channel are verified with ticks, so at least that's a good thing. This is their channel, and here's their site.

She basically just said that they liked the video and wanted to license it, with me getting a commissionable cut of whatever money it makes. Honestly I'm probably not going ahead with this, simply because I feel a bit of a scammer vibe, and don't really see any benefits, but perhaps you might think otherwise?

Any help you guys could give would be much appreciated, thanks!

Do they want you to sign over the rights to the videos? That's where I'd be careful. If your video goes viral you want to be sure you own it free and clear and not have to share with them. Personally I'd only do syndication deals where I get a chunk of money up front and still retain all rights to the video.

I've heard of storyful before, so that's a good thing :) I've licenced one of my videos before to Jukin Media. They got the licensing rights and I kept the copyrights. They would give me 60% of the money the video makes. They used it in a Failarmy compilation which caused a lot of traffic to my channel and for the video to be picked up in Japan which gave me my amount of (embedded) views on my channel. I can say I am really pleased with the results.
I have licensed another video to Viral Video UK, didn't do anything for me really...
So it depends on the video and who you license to, but I think Storyful is a decent company.

I've been contacted by them but haven't used them. Seems legit but their rules and everything aren't clear, especially since I'm partnered with Fullscreen it may cause conflict. Only licensing sites I've verified as legit and not conflictual to my YT channel are Rumble and Break. Just do your research before signing away your work[DOUBLEPOST=1433486055,1433485846][/DOUBLEPOST]

This is what I usually do with rumble using non exclusive licensing. Not a huge chunk of money but you retain rights to keep the video on YouTube and license to other entities. I've licensed multiple videos to more than one site AND still have them on YouTube. A couple videos actually made more money on YouTube than the upfront licenses made me

If i were you,i'd not go with it
Instead,it should motivate you to make more videos,as when you get these offers means you're really making good videos :)

They don't seem to give off a scammer vibe to me. If you still retain full copyright of the video and get a decent percentage of the revenue it doesn't seem like such a bad idea.
At least you know your content is getting better and better if you receive these offers! :)))

I can see why you might feel a little uneasy about this. It's always good to be sceptical about 'offers' on the internet. In your case i would take a serious look at the worst and best case scenario and how likely they are to occur. If you retain all rights and you get a chance at some extra publicity and money i'd think it's worth the risk. Honestly I don't clearly see the risk in this case, as long as you don't sign any dodgy contracts. What do you think the risk is? But in any case, congrats with receiving the offer, it's well deserved!
