Should I make a music video for my covers?

I was wondering whether people liked just listening to audio or having a video to go along with it. I personally usually don't watch the videos and just navigate away and listen to the song only. Also, I'm not very good at editing the music videos together... So would it be better to have a mediocre video or no video at all?

Personally for me. If there is a video to a cover song I'll watch it, but if you don't want to make one you don't really have to. After all the point of it is the song and not your editing skills.

It would be a definite plus, but as Dgamewiz said it is not necessary.

If you can create a video you're happy with, go for it. If you can't satisfy yourself, don't do it.

If it helps, don't aim for "music video." Rather, aim for "musical performance". After making your cover, make a simple lip sync vid. If you can't nail it in one take, record yourself from 2-3 different angles and cut as necessary. You could also get the same effect by shooting yourself from the same angle, but with extremely different outfits or backgrounds.

If all else fails, slap together a slideshow from images you find on Google. Make certain the photos are entertaining. Bonus points for making them relevant. Your "Build Your Own Romantic Hero Kit" reading could benefit from a slideshow of stereotypical romantic heroes. You could match the images to the reading (close-ups on dreamy eyes while you read about eye color, for example) or you could simply make a 2 minute slideshow at random and loop it a couple times.

Sorry, I'm prone to rambling. :)

I find that a music video really helps me feel as though I am getting to know the musician better and helps them create an online persona. If you don't have a video, then to be honest it's just a generic song which really wouldn't interest me unless I am already a fan. So, I am definitely a fan of videos here, even if it is a really basic one

For me a Video really helps
you could film shots of things like trees or what suits the video
or like Beth (english youtuber singer)
sit a mic in front of you, mime your cover
then add that video to your audio

I used to just have a static backdrop for my work, and then I did a few works with just a webcam image, and the audience retention was higher than normal.

And after looking around, I think I came to a conclusion, that it is generally a good thing to have something at least moving on the screen, even if its just your singing/playing doing stuff, since it creates more of a bond and interest to keep watching, rather than just listening : )
