Should I Join a Network?

I hope this is the right forum for this.

I'm wondering whether or not to apply to Maker Gen?

Can anyone tell me if this is a good idea? One of the main reasons why I want to partner like this is for the access to a music library- does anyone know if the music provided is any good? My videos are largely music-orientated so I want to be able to use good quality tracks while still being able to monetise my videos.

Also, can you leave Maker once you are partnered? If, say I didn't think it was benefitting me?

Thanks!

Maker does not offer revolving 30 day contracts to my knowledge, so you'll be locked in for a period of time. Likely 2 years, though I suppose they could have changed and I just haven't heard about it. If you just want a music library and that is the primary motivation, then you definitely should be looking for a short contract term. Your channel will have essentially no earnings to speak of, so you're one of the channels that is actually a prime candidate for Freedom.

Personally, I can't stand them, but for a channel with no earnings, the revenue share doesn't matter and they've got a short term contract so you'll basically get the music for nothing and can leave if you happen to grow quickly to find a real network with a proper partner arrangement later.

Thanks for the advice! I'll check out Freedom. Do you know if the music they provide access to is any good? As in the range of genres, etc.

Yeah, I think it's pretty stock standard at this point. Most groups that offer music are pulling from large music libraries like Audiomicro.com and such. If you can't find music to fit your need from Audiomicro, then you're too picky. :p

Just be aware, if you do go for Freedom that they're a network that has essentially no standards and well over twice as many partners as the next biggest network on YouTube. So don't expect great support.

In terms of Freedom music they have

AudioMicro
Epidemic Sound
Position Music
FiXT Music

I was waiting for the April's Fools.

heh, indeed.

I have a lot of problems with Freedom, but the fact remains that for small channels with essentially no income to speak of, the revenue share doesn't matter. So you're trading no income for costless access to royalty free music on a "no lock" contract. It's about the only situation where picking Freedom is actually a logical choice.
