Should I have writing in my thumbnails?

I just seen a good few people give opinions to others on the text in a thumbnail being redundant since its already in the text title. And with my videos (since they are fact videos) I always have top 10 facts in them. Should I take them out?And even so for anybody else is this just something people shouldn't do?

I would keep it. As for me I would rather click on a video where I see thumbnail with text "top10 fact" and league of legends image in the background than just clicking on a picture of league of legends without anything. But that's just my opinion

I experimented with it a while back and I didn't like how it looked, the text made it stand much more.

I've always preferred thumbnails with text in them. Just keep it concise, i.e. 3 words max, and try and use different words that aren't in the title

I am pro text. It may depend on your niche though. Anything that supports a cohesive story of title, thumbnail and description will likely help.

I've wondered this myself, I've got videos of each side. I've decided text is nice, if it's custom to that video, and away in the corner to still show off the nice picture,
it puts me off when people do MASSIVE CAPSLOCK TEXT THAT COVERS THE PICTURE ALMOST ENTIRELY

but other than that you should be fine

My personal opinion is that it isn't really about whether or not a thumbnail has text on it but how the text looks. A nice looking clean text does add something to the picture, but I've also seen some that just make it look like a mess.

In your case I'd definitely keep it in, since it catches the eye and immediately informs the viewer that the video will be a top10-list.

As long as it's fairly simple, you can get away with it! You don't want too much or it'll get cluttered.

Change the title to more keyword like terms and put the real title in the thumbnail
