Should I get a softbox?

Hi guys!

I'm using a torch lamp to bounce the light to the ceiling. The quality is good, but I think I can do it better. I think I'm ready to do the next step and get some softboxes.

I liked these ones that I found in amazon.
  • What do you guys think?
  • Would you recommend them? Or any other softbox you'd recommend?
  • What was your experience when you guys jumped to use softbox?
  • Any other advice that I need to have in mind on getting a softbox?
I want them to shoot video. I usually shot indoors.

Thanks in advance! :)

They seem fine to me but I would go for a kit with a boom arm on the third one so you can light above your head, it isnt necessary though but it would look better in my opinion.

At present I just use two softboxes, I got mine from Rocwing, they're priced good and work nicely.

Make sure you have the space for them and perhaps a bag to store them in, luckily I got one for free with mine from Rocwing.

I am making my own soft box. I have regular lights right now and I don't like the way it look and the shadows on the wall so I can't wait to get mine made.

are you just buying the softbox, or a lighting kit? if your getting a lighting kit then yes, no harm not 2 there cheap enough anyway if your doing lots of talking, would be good

I use the Cowboy Studio Softbox kit from Amazon. It works great, and though the stands are a little flimsy, the kit is good for video making. You may need to get more powerful bulbs at some point, but these are fine if you are using them in a small area. Make sure to white balance your camera before shooting or you may turn a bit blue. Remember these are daylight balanced bulbs. Here is a video where I used them in a lighting tutorial.

Get yourself a softbox, if you know how to use it, though :D Lighting is difficult. Good luck!
Yeah, lighting does take a little practise so make sure to watch a few tutorials and maybe invest in a book or an online course covering lighting.

I've been working in video production for more than seven years, and lighting has always my least favorite part of it. I didn't understand it for the longest time. Now that I've gotten the hang of it I have a new least favorite part. Sound.

Thanks a lot for your responses, guys! You're helping me a lot :)

I think I'm gonna get a lighting kit of 2 softboxes from Amazon.

I may check those out as well TBH. I'm not too good with lighting and currently just use a standard video light mounted to my camera! Lighting can be as important as the video itself!
