Should I be worried that the format of my videos isn't interesting enough?

I've Got It
I hope this is the right place to put this. I've gotten soooo much mixed feedback on whether I should change the format of my music videos. Right now, I just use a static image or do a slideshow, and honestly that's all I can really do on my own. Sometimes, I have a friend help me with basic animations, but A.) I haven't noticed any real jump in views from doing that, they have about the same amount of views as my static pic videos or B.) He isn't always available to do animations, and I have an upload schedule I need to stick
to.

To me, I feel like since my channel is primarily music themed and audio based, I think people would be coming to hear my music and not notice the picture, but what do you think? Like I said, I've had some other youtube musicians be like "Yeah just using an image is fine they're coming to hear your music" and other non-youtubers be like "Yeah you should start filming yourself singing" but I'm...not really comfortable doing the second one yet >,>

So yeah, I'm just really conflicted about this. Any advice?

You hit the nail on the head right here.

Unfortunately in the YouTube world we live in today, making videos with just slide shows of images will only get you so far. I struggle with this all the time as coming up with content that's unique and draws in viewers is very time-consuming. Luckily, for you, it's just a matter of firing up your webcam, taking a leap of faith, and saying "I'm confident in my abilities", and putting your face out there. It adds an element of sincerity and will help you viewers connect with you on a much more personal level.

Here's my advice - do you want to make it big? Do you want to show the world you can sing? Then put your face and there and stop caring what other's think.

As a matter of fact, I have yet to do a face reveal, but will with my video upload today. I've come to realize that my viewers want to see who I am, and it will only help me in the end. Will you get people making ridiculous comments? Probably, but if you've been on the world wide web for more than a day you'll realize there are idiots everywhere :)

Good luck!! Just do it :)

Great advice :) though the few times I've tried to do webcam footage I wind up getting the "Ugh your camera sucks" rotfl - like you said, everyone's a critic no matter what you wind up doing!. But yeah, I think -big sigh- I'll get some cheap lighting and give it a go for one of my videos and see how it turns out. Thanks for the encouragement! I don't want to make it like, big per say but I would like my channel to be the best it can be while sharing my work :) and I do feel like not showing my face has been a huge barrier between what my channel is and what I want it to be.

So TL;DR, thanks for the advice hahaa

No problem! It's one of the biggest barriers us that are new to YouTube have to overcome. I finally did so yesterday!

If you need help with lighting feel free to send me a pm. I've recently invested a small amount in a (somewhat) professional lighting set up and, if you look at some of my more recent repair videos, you can see that it's working very well.
