Short or long videos? What is better for retention?

Hello, i read here a alot about it, can someone explain this and how it affects monetization?
 
hey, youtube introduced few years ago (in 2012 I think) many others parameters such as the percentage of video watched and yes in this case the shorter video can be monetized a bit more just because it can be watched entirely.

For my irrelevant opinion: simply do content that you wanna do, I think this is the best way to be watched on youtube :)
 
oh yes but if someone watches the entire video you get a bit more money. So the actual google/youtube engine ia able to understand if the spectator is really
interested in your video
