Resources (books / tutorials) for making short films / documentaries?

Crown

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hi

I'm looking for some good resources on how to get better at producing short films / documentaries. This is with the aim of producing some interesting "out and about" video lessons for my channel :)

I realise that is a broad question and professional filmakers have years of training and practice and experience, but what could an enthusiastic amateur do to learn and improve?

I'm interested in both the creative aspects and technical aspects.

So what YouTube channels, books, websites, even real life documentaries could you recommend?

Thanks :)

As far as books, I'd recommend "How to Shoot Video That Doesn't Suck" by Steve Stockman. It has a lot of information on shooting different types of videos. Some of it is pretty common knowledge, but I did learn a few things on storytelling, shooting and editing.

film riot and indy mogul are great youtube channels for this stuff :)

Thanks, I checked them out and subbed

Cheers buddy, that's exactly what I'm looking for :)

Brilliant, thanks man, I'll check that out.

Indy Mogul is a lifesaver! Check them out for sure!

Also, Bammo is really good, but I don't think they make videos any more. Their Weapons of Mass Production has helped me.

Thanks buddy, I'm gonna check that out right now

Our college always recommend Guerilla Guides (they have a large collection of books which can help you with most things)
