So I normally record PC gameplay with dxtory and have never really looking into recording console gameplay let alone SD gameplay WITH commentary!

What equipment would be needed?

Thanks!

If you are just looking for recording you can use the Hauupagge (<---Crazy spelling, probably wrong) HD PVR, Ive used one for PS3 and Xbox 360 for a while and it worked great. Just as a side question are you sure you want to do PS2. Its outdated and I doubt many people will want to watch stuff that old as compared to the onboard recording software that will come with PS4 and Xbox One.

I disagree, I think there is easily a market for those kinds of videos, people love to watch retro gaming, in fact my Spyro videos were some of my most popular videos, even on my second channel reached 1000 views, when I only had 200 subs :)
Also, I don't think he would need to spend so much money on an HD capture card to record a console that isn't HD, surely? :)

Lets agree to disagree then about the videos, on the side of technology you can try Pinacle Dazzle to record non HD, im giving you recommendations from a tech point of view, from a viewer point of view I see no reason to invest in old tech, but it is up to you

I know that there are a lot of Retro Gamers that get big when that's all they do, so I think its worth a go :)
Also, while I agree to upload videos in HD, I really see no need to record in HD, when the original game is is SD :)

If you want to record PS2 gameplay I'd get the regular Hauppauge HD PVR. (Not the gaming edition)
The regular one can use composite cables (red, white, yellow) which the PS2 uses, the gaming edition can only use HDMI and component cables (green, blue, red, white, red)

I got both and they work great, the only thing I dislike about the regular one is that the cables are so freakin short compared to the gaming edition.
