recording old pc games

Weekend Noobs

If the week gets you down then join us and unwind
Hi,

I'm try to record monty python and the holy grail on PC but I'm having trouble trying to get decent quality. If I use fraps the colours go rainbow even when opening the game in windows 87 settings. The colour stays for about 3mins then goes back to rainbow.

When using snagit to capture my pc screen the game becomes very laggy and the sound vanishes.

I believe it runs on dosbox and apparently there is an option to record in the top bar settings but I was wandering if there was any other means of recording it?
besides pointing a video camera at the screen of course lol

Have you tried OBS? I think it's free but I've herd good things about it. I have it but I don't use it cus I use Xsplit but that's not free
Worth a go! Heck it may even be better than what I'm already using lol.
I may have a cheeky peak at xsplit too while im at it

Yeah I really like Xsplit because it makes recording your facecame with the game very easy. I don't remember how much it was though sorry. I got it kind of awhile ago while it was still in beta I think so it was probably cheaper then too

Most if not all recording programs have a watermarked demo you can try out before pulling the trigger. My recommendation would be to have atleast 3 programs on deck (easier said than done). I use OBS, Shadowplay, and DxTory.

Also OBS and such can be problematic recording fullscreen apps that are older. If that is case I would say look at a thing on steam called "Borderless Gaming" it makes any windows application a borderless window which OBS can record by setting it to record a monitor compared to a specific application.
