Recording in public - camera security?

Okay, so watching many YouTube videos that are recorded in public by a single person, I see a lot of shots need to be setup, and then are recorded, often with the YouTuber walking away/walking past/etc.

It's a great effect for B-roll / sequences / etc... But my question is around camera security.

Some places - especially cities and towns with people about, would concern me about camera security and being concerned of someone running off with it...

Does anyone else have the same concerns? Has anyone found a practical solution or got any tips?

Yes, I'd have the same concerns.

It's easier for me because there's two of us at work on our channel and we often film together. So, whilst we're getting some b-roll the other one can hold the camera or at least watch it.

I guess if I was on my own I'd have to make a decision based on how I felt in the situation. For example, if I was in a city with a few families around I'd probably risk leaving it for a second whilst I set up a shot. If I was surrounded by folk who I thought might fancy my camera, however, I'd probably not bother with that particular shot or find somewhere else to get it.

I usually have the camera in my hand while i´m filming in public (with the drop of quality that follows), but it gives me security of knowing where my camera is and having control of it at the same time!
Then again, I don´t have any equipment that could help me line a shot.
