Recording from iPhone 5 in the car...(regarding audio)

Hello everyone, my friend and I are starting a gaming channel where we talk about playstation news. However as a "side series" we want to do something while we are driving (as we drive quite a bit) what we are going to do yet I don't know. However, we are filming w/ the iPhone 5 and I will buy a suction mount. What can we do as far as quality audio goes? We need something cheap and something we don't have to hold in our hands/headsets.

Thanks guys and gals for reading!

The iPhone 5 should have great audio quality while recording (unless you've tested it). Other than that, I'm not sure if a wireless mic would work :/

Actually, there's a VERY easy way to use an external mic with any iDevice (iPhone, iPad, iPod).

You can get an adapter cord from KVConnection for about 25-30 bucks. Just search "iPhone 1/8 inch microphone adapter – 3.5mm 4 conductor TRRS Male to 3.5mm Microphone Input Jack" on their site and it will pop right up. With one of these you can use any 3.5mm mic!

For an example of the difference in sound, check out this video I shot and edited on my iPad

I recommend the iRig mic, they have good quality mics that are good options for apple products in general. check it out.

While I don't doubt that you are saying (or anyone else) my concern is when I'm driving there will be windows down and I'm afraid the mic that is built into the phone is going to pickup a lot of wind noise. I know it has noise canceling, but my phone is mounted in the left corner of my windshield which will be right next to my window.

Why does the window have to be down? And maybe theres a cover you can get for the iphone mic

This adapter is exactly what I have. I used it along with an Audio Technica ATR-3350 lapel mic (the ones that clip onto your shirt etc) which comes with a very long cable. Works perfect.

Nick Napolitano - I dont really use the adapter any more (originally purchased from KVConnection) so if you are based in the UK and want to buy it from me to save on the international shipping etc, give me a shout ;)
