Recording commentary from a script and how you do it

Gods of Odds

Loving YTtalk
I'm wondering how does everyone record their commentary when they are reading a script? Whenever I try doing it I usually mess up somehow or something goes wrong about half way through so I was thinking about maybe doing 1 page or a few paragraphs at a time. What do you all think about that idea and do you have any better ideas?

If i messed up I take a few breaths, drink some water and then just redo where i messed up while still leaving the recording on. After im done recording, just edit the mess up out of the narration/commentary. If after editing theres still a few mess up, i either rerecord everything from the start or just record the part that needs recording, providing i could get the same room condition as previous recording.

But my videos depends on my commentary rather than the other way around, so it might not work for you.

The videos that I will be doing are very focussed on my commentary so maybe I'll try that. Thanks for the idea.

I think it depends on what you're talking about, and if I were to read from a script, I wouldn't read it word for word. I would use it as an outline instead of "script", but still getting the point across.

I take a protection pause every now and again. Just a breather so that if I mess up, I only have to re-do the part I messed up and not the whole thing. I can edit out extended silences and isolated flubs. But I do always record the whole commentary in one go.

I just read all my script in one go, if I know I've made a mistake then I'll say the line again in the same recording then just cut out the mistake when I have to edit my audio.
