I've seen a few videos of some popular songs I have heard on XM radio that are just somebody adding graphic effects to stuff they've recorded and then putting the song in the background... These are also monetized, which I thought was not allowed with copyrighted music. Is there some kind of rule that allows you to just change the video and use the official music or something? If so it seems like we should just be able to use popular music in our videos.
Most likely they have ads because they have third party matches (copyright holder is earning money) so no money would go to the owner.
