So I started editing my video using WMML and every time I upload them to youtube I always get the black border around my videos. Is there something wrong with the aspect ratio I'm rendering at?

Go to project select aspect ratio widescreen 16:9.

Windows movie maker is very good for like the casual vids.

Windows Movie Maker is a very good program to start with. I have used it when I started and you can make some fun, easy edits with it.
Set the setting to widescreen (16:9) and than make sure the footage covers the entire preview screen.
