With commentary is always more enjoyable for the viewer. The real question lies in whether you want to do a live commentary (speaking whilst playing) or a post commentary (talking after the fact). I personally do both depending on the game.
With high level competitive play and and big scores, analyse your performance and offer tips/tricks etc. So not only can you play well at the time, people can also learn from your videos. With casual/messing around kind of playthroughs, if you feel confident enough try talking whilst playing.
I used the post-commentary in my League of Legends videos, but a live commentary for my PAYDAY: The Heist stuff. You might have to cut out the boring parts or speech fumbles with the latter though. When you talk for 30 minutes straight it's bound to happen and be quite monotonous for the listener.
Hope this helped.
