Planning out your videos

I was looking around for some tips on how to plan out your videos and promotions.

  1. Do you plan your videos ahead? How far ahead?
  2. What system do you use? (Google Drive, paper and pen, etc.)
  3. Do you plan out your script ahead of time or just wing it?

I mainly use Google Drive for my ideas, but sometimes I'll use paper and pen. I upload one video per week so I'm trying to plan my videos out one month ahead. I ran into a lot of problems with organizing, and it led me to work on my videos the day that's it's supposed to be published. I really don't want to go with that again!

I do. I find having a topic and some bullet points help with the organization of what I want to have in my videos.

  2. What system do you use? (Google Drive, paper and pen, etc.)
Paper and marker for my heavy brainstorming session, and then just Word, print and away I go!

  3. Do you plan out your script ahead of time or just wing it?
A little bit of both. We talk about the scene, possibly the lines we're using and then wing it. The best material is improve I feel!

  • Do you plan your videos ahead? How far ahead?
  • I tend to try to plan ahead with my videos, but usually I wait until last minute to film. I only plan ahead a week, just in case the video idea goes stale.
  • What system do you use? (Google Drive, paper and pen, etc.)
  • I use both paper & pen, or Word, but it depends on which one I have in that moment.
  • Do you plan out your script ahead of time or just wing it?
  • I have tried scripting videos and they work well for me because it leaves me organized, but I do occasionally wing it. I feel that coming up with things on the spot is just a tad bit funnier for me.

I agree that is a mess.... fortunatelly I don't have a scheduled time for publishing.. I adopted the "2 minimum/week" policy =)

anyway... let's answers!

Do you plan your videos ahead? How far ahead?
I have 3 kinds of video on my channel:
  • FAST: put my camera on and shot!
  • vBLogs: yes, I first write the Blog and then shoot the Vlog
  • DIRECTION: plan It different months far ahead and make screenplay, usually storyboard =)

I feel very confortable with mindmups
  • love the mindmup app for google drive
  • use Adobe story for screeplay and planning
  • google keeps for annotations onthego
  • paper for a less organized minmup =)

uh? Feel confused with the first one xD

Oof, these questions are going to make me seem terrible unorganized, @Jaydee C - thanks for that :P

Do you plan your videos ahead? How far ahead?

The only real thing planned in advance for our videos so far (which have all been the street interviews) is simply a topic. Sometimes we lock in a topic only a couple of days before a shoot, some I know a week or two in advance what I want to do.

I just keep it all up in my head! Which is probably not the best way to do it, but having my notes scattered everywhere doesn't really help me either.

Well with the street interviews we've done so far, obviously we can't script anything since each interview is going to be different. The only thing slightly planned ahead of time are the questions I'm going to ask, but even then, those change depending on the setup - for example, if the interviewee brings up something that we wouldn't have thought to ask, or a wildly different answer to one of the questions, I have to adapt and play off of that. So definitely a lot of what I do onscreen is all on my toes and off the cuff.

Yes I have a list of videos for my monday and thursday videos as I put subs on them . Right now they are planned until mid May.
  1. What system do you use? (Google Drive, paper and pen, etc.)
They are written in my agenda, the list of ideas, and I use a piece of paper to write in what order I want to treat them. Then once they are uploaded and subs I write them with the date of diffusion in my agenda also. So it is three lists (two inside my agenda).

No scripts just filming. I have vlogs, or hauls, a giveaway series and let's play the sims 4 I just go with the flow after thinking about the idea and what I'd like to say

Hope this help!
