"Pixel Pirate"

Okay, so for a week or so I've been brainstorming possible ideas to move away from this name. Now plenty of people have told me that it's fine, but it's my own personal belief that it's not. It's pretty poop in my opinion..

BUT, I've come up with a solution. I'm thinking of re-branding myself as "Pixel Pirate". I'm not going to be changing channels, simply because I've worked extremely hard to get to where I'm at now and I'm not throwing it down the drain. The URL will actually serve it's purpose as well, and if anyone asks I am simply..

"Faptain Obvious, the Pixel Pirate"

I've got a logo and such in the works (I'll post a screenshot in this thread when it's done) and I'm thinking that this might be a good move. What do you guys think? Should I carry on with this decision before it's to late? (eg. channel's at the stage where major change would be a bad idea)
 
Hmmm.. I personally like Faptain Obvious, its a great name. It really shines along the ranks of big youtuber names. Pixel Pirate sounds a little bland, I thought it was a indie game that your were playing or making when I saw this thread on the side bar. xD

Should you do it? Do what feels right, what made you think of changing in the first place?

I had someone tweet at me saying something along the lines of "I've seen your name pop up for a few days and I didn't want to click because of your name, I was expecting crappy videos".

So I kinda took a step back and said, that's a good point.. Like, my name isn't exactly giving off the vibe of "Hey, I make Gaming Videos". Ya know?

True, but its good you didn't go the way of <name>plays, <name>game, ect. Pewdiepie, Captain Sparkels, BajanCanadian, Woofles, AntVenom, Seananners, and apparently people still have numbers in their name with millions of subs, wut. Yes they are main known names now (Yes I put mostly minecraft because its the only ones I know because of my brothers). But from the names you don't expect gaming.

But I really like Faptain obvious, don't listen to that guy on twitter your name doesn't at all indicate that your videos will be crappy, they are actually pretty great!!! I think it would be OK though to just add "the pixel pirate" onto the end but please don't just replace the Faptain Obvious name down the line.
 
I've been contemplating channing my channel a lot as well but then I'll have to rebrand the art, remake my facebook page and even redo all my bitly urls. I'm terrible with naming stuff. I like both Faptain Obvious and Pixel Pirate, although tbh I don't get why the guy would say Faptain Obvious suggests crappy videos. They might just be 1 of those douches that like to take subtle shots at people, not sugar coating stuff but I mean they like to just get under peoples skin without making themselves look bad. I'd say stick to Faptain though just to save you the effort and add the Pixel Pirate thing if you want. TotalBiscuit has "TotalBiscuit, The Cynical Brit" as his channel name so you could have "FaptainObvious, The Pixel Pirate".
 
I am also in the Faptain camp.

It's unique and that is good for branding.
Pixel Pirate is nice but it ain't the Faptain we know and love.

I'm sure someone made a similar comment about seananners, that name is just balls. But it is a brand now.
 
Faptain, it was one guy. 283 other people (including me) love it and I'm sure more will.
