I've Got It
I'm an absolute newb to photoshop and was wondering if anybody could help me. I'm trying to edit text on a picture but have no clue on how to do it. I have photoshop 5.1

If the text is already on the picture, and you not have access to a PSD file, you will not be able to change the text well, especially if you are a beginner. If you could post a picture of what you are trying to edit/do, I could better understand your problem.

I want to change the text on this picture: Its a JPEG image if that has anything to do with anything.

What format is the file? Is it just like that, or is it a multi-layered PSD file?

You can't, it needs to be a photoshop file (PSD). So next time save it as a photoshop file so you can go back to it and edit it at a later date.
