I need a new sound card for my computer because mine doesn't actually fit in the case. Please suggest a decent soundcard that isn't too expensive that would fit in my computer, which is about 3.95 x 13.3 x 14.9 inches. I would like it if it was good for gaming as well. Computer Case Type: HP Compaq dc7900 Small Form Factor

I run beastly machines and do heavy audio and video editing. I have not used a dedicated sound card in a decade. Does your machine not have onboard audio? That should work just fine.

Barring that, look for external USB audio devices.

I don't really want an external audio device. I have a very large surround sound system that requires a sound card inside my computer.

Time to do some research then. You'll find very quickly that the external audio devices have the same feature set as the internal cards though. For internal cards you can certainly try a low profile card which is for the small form factor towers. At this point it doesn't really matter what manufacturer. Asus, Creative labs, Startech.

You may also want to open the case up and make sure you have a PCI slot for the card to be inserted in. HP and Dell aren't exactly known for leaving extra room for expansion.

I have plenty of PCI slots. What I would prefer is a CreativeLabs sound card because that is the brand of my sound system.

I wouldn't put an exceptional amount of love in that direction because ultimately the brand of speaker matching the brand of card doesn't matter. Creative Labs used to be the sound card king, but that day has long since passed.

well, what brand do you suggest?

Like he said, the brand doesn't really matter, onboard and internal soundcards all do the same thing basically.

Ok, I think I have actually found one that I like:
