PC Game Recording!!

I've Got It
Hey guys, i'm just curious as to if there is a better way to record than i currently am, i mean i'm happy with how i'm recording but i'm always looking to improve quality etc.

So atm I record gameplay with Fraps, I record both webcam and microphone with a program called Debut Video Capture Software. I then edit using Adobe Premiere Pro cs6.

I've been thinking about recording my face just using a normal video camera and recording audio with audacity or something so i can atleast tweak the microphone a little and then sync them together then add them into the gameplay video but idn if that's a good idea or not.

Anyways, cheers for reading.

I am using Bandicam. It's way better than Fraps. It makes the files way smaller than Fraps and it doesn't separate the video on so many files like Fraps. It records your gaming audio and your mic on a difrent files, so you can very easly make your editing.
Also, I recomend using a normal camera, than web cam, becouse when you are playing games, the web cam may become laggy.

you could get a pvr. lot of em record an audio file for you in a separate mp3.

the only issues with PVRs is if you got a super high paced game like lets say battlefield then there can be a little screen tearing if ya run past 60 fps. 90% of games you won't notice it though. another nice thing about pvrs though is the file size is super small even at high bit rates and they don't lag the pc as bad :)

as long as the pvr or capture card has hdmi it should be able to record pc. some capture cards use less resources than others though. don't want to come off as a spokesman as im sure other companies have some good alternatives but look at avermedias pvrs. 2 models actually are marketed to record almost lag free at about 30fps at 1080p(60 fps at 720p). the card and pvr are more marketed to streamers as it works as a great lag free capture source for xsplit so they are pushed a little less towards the console recording crowd. still considering it lets ya record pretty good hd gameplay and allows for live commentary on a separate mp3, it's a good option to consider

also on webcams, there are many models that offer compression. think a popular one is made by blue but im not sure what it's called. :)

Fraps records onto 1 file if your hard drives file system is NTFS, FAT32 is really outdated.
I do suggest using an external camera that's seperate from your system with it's own storage, so that your system is freed up for MOAR GAMING POWUR
Unless of course if you have a beastly rig then webcam is fine.
I haven't used bandicam, not sure what it's like. I went with Fraps after reading lots of reviews and seeing that basically ALL big time YTers use it, maybe it was a bad decision I'm not sure. Also record your mic with audacity, no explanation why should be needed.

Thanks man, yeah i'll probably stick with fraps although some of the big time yter's i watch nowadays seem to be using something different for their screen recording and i can't for the life of me figure out what it is, my computer is pretty beastly it can record webcam without any lag, atleast any noticeable lag while playing the new dead island game, the only reason i was thinking video camera and audacity is like i said with audacity i can make the mic sound nicer haha and with a video camera, one it does free up some of the power thats being used to record webcam and it also might be better quality given the right light. The only reason i'm hesitant is because i bought my webcam specifically to record for gaming >.<. oh well what works better is what i should be doing haha

If you look up on one of my articles, where we describe how we record our video, and audio footage, you might find it useful, although it depends on if you have the time to render your videos, and the size of your hard disk that is able to hold all your recordings made by fraps. If you don't want to waste a lot of time on that, and doesn't have like terabytes of space, check up on my article in the "Strategies & Technique Advice" section, with the title of: "The other way of capturing video, and audio. ( mostly for gamers )"
